This is the correct cast-iron Dunlop-style cylinder with the proper 90-degree angle between fluid ports. Fits all 3.8 E-Type (it replaces part number C17643 used on very early cars) and all but very late Series I 4.2. Those late cars use an identical cylinder but the forked rod is slightly shorter, so it will require you to have to install your old rod on the new cylinder. This is not compatible with late E-Types that have been converted to the alloy Girling-type cylinder.

How to identify if your E-Type has a late-style cylinder: They can be identified by the short nipple at the front of the cylinder that accepts a clamped piece of rubber hos. All earlier cars had a hard pipe fitted to the front port. To prevent corrosion, these cylinders are plated gold. The cylinder can easily be painted "cast iron gray" for a truly original look.
